Liberty Jail, Independence visitor center, and Adam-ondi-Ahman

It was so fun to be with Austin's family this past week to attend the Johnson family reunion in Nauvoo. Even though there was only 28 of the extended family there, it was great to be there. Austin and I stayed at Janelle's the night before so we could head out the door early for our flight. Here's a cute video of Gwen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHANcnaFv48
We got into Kansas City around 1 pm. Dave, Vicki, and Meghan were on our flight so it was great to chat before we got picked up. Mom and Dad Doutre, Breeana, Cami and Sean picked us up from the airport and we went straight to Liberty Jail. Everyone else met us there. I saw all these sights at age 14 when we had our Lewis family reunion but I don't think I appreciated it as much so it was great to be back.

I came away learning from Liberty Jail to hold onto hope. Trust in God for good things to come. A man named Caleb who had 9 children was imprisoned with Joseph and the others. He made great sacrifices for the gospel and would never waver from his testimony of Joseph Smith, even if it would cost him his life. Hearing his story made me love the name Caleb even more.

After Liberty, we got a bite to eat before heading over to Independence to see the visitor center. A neat thing was to have the missionaries serving there sing to our group "Where Can I Turn For Peace" in front of the Christus.

I especially looked forward to Adam-ondi-Ahman because I remember last time the peaceful feeling you get there overlooking acres of beautiful green lands. It truly is a special place. Unfortunately we didn't meet up with the rest of the family which was funny because we were all using the same address but for some reason, all 3 of our GPS took us to a different spot. It was definitely part of Adam-ondi-Ahman but I'm guessing it was on the other side of what I remember. I'm actually glad I could see this side. It was breathtaking. It was so peaceful there. It's like you could feel that in this picture.
