For some future day

Sometimes I like to blog because I'm the only one at home and my thoughts get collected in a whole bunch of random thoughts and I want to write them down....and also because I'm lacking the motivation to do my dishes.

Even though it's beautiful outside today, I haven't taken the time to go out on a walk yet. Sometimes Pokey is sketch to me and I would rather do it with Austin. This is a reminder that early morning walks/runs are the best. They really help boost my day. This drag feeling also means that a certain time of the month is approaching and all I want to do is sleep but I've got to get packing so I can go to Hawaii next week to help Mere.

I had this thought this morning that I haven't written down (at least that I can't remember) that some days I get certain promptings on how to raise my kids. And I don't even have any yet. I realize that I need to write these down pronto. One especially is that they need to be familiar with the voice of God, and with his servants, the prophets. I think this happened when we started to make the habit of listening to a Conference talk every morning while we were getting ready for the day. I told myself that I need to do this every day and continue to do so. The word 'familiar' is very important to me when we talk about the Spirit or about those who speak by the Spirit (mainly our prophet and apostles). I recognized that I was blessed to have this familiarity at a very young age thanks to Mom I'm sure, who was always listening to a Conference address while getting ready for the day in her bathroom. Sometimes we would have it going on before school. When I went to EFY when I was 15 for the 1st time, in one of the classes, they played a clip from each of an Apostles' talk and we were supposed to guess who it was. I got them all right. It was a no-brainer for me. And I was baffled that I was one of the only ones who got them all right. I don't mean this in a bragging way but it instilled in me a desire for my kids to know them as well.

I understand that listening to them everyday at a young age they probably won't get a ton out of it but just like listening to a best friend, you remember their voice and you perk up every time you hear their voice. I just want them to associate with their voices.

I don't know if this is so much of a prompting as it is a desire but I want our kitchen to be the heart of the home when lots of conversations and memories are made. I want to be at home when the kids come home. I heard once that a lady never scheduled anything after the time her children came home. She wanted them to know that her time was for them. That's what I want as well. A warm hug and a smile to greet them every day.

  1. Love this! You've inspired me to listen to more conference talks.
